Opening just in time to greet the Great Depression in 1929, the hotel nevertheless prospered because it became an immediate hit with the Who’s Who of Hollywood.

The hotel’s incomparable location on the Laguna Beach sand has kept it popular with the seaside set for over eight decades. The famous year-round temperate weather and sunshine keeps them coming back.
The Laguna beach and breakers are also a magnet for surfers from around the world, and no hotel better understands or caters to the vibe of these denizens of the big waves.
There is much to discover here that is not immediately obvious
Stairs and hallways at historic La Casa Del Camino haven’t changed since the Beach Boys were babies, but some of the suites have been transformed by what is called the Casa Surf Project and the results are really something to see.
The Casa Surf Project
Over the last few years a consortium including water sports icons like Billabong, Quicksilver, and Rip Curl, and some of Southern California’s most creative interior designers came together to renovate and invigorate ten suites that would do US surf legends like Preston “Pete” Petersen proud.
Complete with vibrant contemporary colors, hand-painted and celebrity signed surfboards on the walls, surf inspired photomurals and music, and jaunty furniture designed by the leading light of modern form and function – George Nelson. This is a place where vivid surfer culture traditions are very much alive.
Hotel Restaurants
La Casa Del Camino also boasts two informal dining milieus with menus designed to reflect the location and atmosphere. The K’ya Bistro Bar is a local gathering spot and purveyor of delicious casual eats – Mediterranean style.
The Rooftop Lounge is noted for having the best ocean view in Laguna. This is the perfect place to sip your favorite wine, nibble some California cuisine hors d'oeuvres, and watch a spectacular Pacific sunset. A votre santé!
We put this historic Mediterranean-style boutique hotel in our unusual lodging category. We like the atmosphere, staff, and food. If you are looking for some serious beachside fun call 949.497.2446, or check out their website at www.lacasadelcamino.com
