Our travel stories usually consist of reviews of incredible leisure-time destinations and luxury hotels and resorts. Our “beat” covers exclusive vacation activities and properties that are frequently on the selective traveler's bucket list. This article is different.
Fixing a dilemma
A few months back we found ourselves in the little town of Shelton, Connecticut, which is situated about two hours northeast of the Big Apple.
We were a day early for a planned review of the elegant Delamar Hotel in Greenwich Harbor. A friend suggested we spend the night in a local resident-style inn – the Hotel Sierra. What a gem.
Everything we needed
The Hotel Sierra has everything a tired traveler craves, including quick check-in, an unusually friendly staff, a good selection of nearby restaurants, and 127 clean rooms with plenty of handy amenities.
Our room had a complete kitchenette with full size refrigerator, a dishwasher, a heavenly king size bed, and a great work desk with ergonomic chair. What a delight to have a strong internet connection – and the service was complimentary.
The comforts in this smartly designed studio-room includes a contemporary sofa and chair ensemble, and a flat screen giant TV.
The bathroom is well appointed and loaded with the little pampering goodies you would expect to find in a much more expensive hotel.
The hotel also boasts an indoor pool and a workout facility that is surprisingly robust.
The multi-station, 24-hour Business Center offers the busy road warrior all the necessities, and the first 10 pages of incoming faxes are free.
The substance of life
We are suckers for a good omelet and the Sierra provides made-to-order omelets with its complimentary breakfast buffet – they also serve Starbucks coffee. Yum to all that.
Others have taken notice as well
Overall, this is a great hotel for a stay of any duration. I guess we are not the only people impressed with the vibe and service – very recently, the Hotel Sierra properties became part of the Hyatt Group of hotels. Nice acquisition guys!
If you go
If the other Hotel Sierra properties are equal in quality to Shelton, we can recommend Hotel Sierras as a great choice for vacationing families and budget minded business travelers.
Happy travels!
